RetroNick: Games Collector // Episode 5: RetroNick Pocket Color SP-cast
Episode 5: RetroNick Pocket Color SP-cast
The fab five return to talk about the little things in life, portable gaming hardware. Listen as Nick, Steve, Louis, Ben, and James talk about the portable games they played growing up, some of the larger milestones for the time, and hear them play some vintage consoles live over the Internet.
This episode also debuts the Retronick.com patch for Virtual Boy! Now you can play your Virtual Boy with a defective display like it was brand new again! (Note: The VB Patch from Retronick.com will disable 3D).
Also this episode, Nick digs into the vault to dole out some of his favorite games and consoles from his boyhood for the RetroNick cast to play. The mission? Get a bunch of present-day gamers to try these classics from yesterday, and see how they stand the test of time.
Along with being the fifth episode of RetroNick Radio, it is also the second live episode ever.
*Special Notes: Big thanks to @NES_4Life who wrote in with suggestions, photographs, and mad-phat kudos for the show. Apologies man, we never did get around to talkin’ Game and Watch or the new retro handhelds. Also big thanks to @james_hare, who was kind enough to throw us some re-tweet love and words of encouragement. There are a whole lot more of you to thank, but we’ve only got so much time right now. If I didn’t mention you here, I’ll throw you some love in the next go around. Promise! One last thing, my parents don’t actually have a problem with the Japanese… At least not anymore. We had a ton of Japanese exchange-students stay with us growing up anyway. That and I’m pretty sure James means “Rogue Squadron” when he says “Rebel Assault”.
You could drink every time Louis tries to incite rage in Nintendo fans, every time Nick forgets to describe what he’s showing to people in the room, every time a portable console starts blaring music accidentally, or every time Steve starts playing one of the portables. If you’re feeling really brave, drink when someone points out the lack of batteries… Or, think of all the good years you have ahead of you. Do the responsible thing, which is nothing that will get us sued!
